This section is about the methods of improving performance. It is intended to give a general outline and ignores the very special (and costly) performance modifications. We like to measure improved performance in percentage because it is universally applicable to all engines. Most modern engines are fuel injected with the latest "boxes" being protected, which does not allow you to tune them. The SMT range circumvent the protection methods to allow you to tune the engine. The question is by how much?
0 - 5 % CONVENTIONAL TUNING
5 - 15 % GAS FLOW
-
Gas flow the head
-
Gas flow the head and tune the engine with a SMT6 or SMT7.
15 - 30 % GAS FLOW, CAM, (?)
-
Gas flow, Cam and all the tricks you know
-
The ECU may limit your efforts by not providing enough fuel. Gas flow, Cam, and more tricks. You can use a mild supercharger or turbo if your engine has low compression.
-
30 - 60 % TURBO, SUPERCHARGER,(NITROUS)
-
Change to a fuel injection system and provide better breathing. Put a better cam in and open your trick box. Put a supercharger or turbo on. Decompress your engine. Use a SMT6 or SMT7 for tuning.
-
Throw the ECU away and replace it with a XMS.Use some nitrous for sprint
60 - 100% TURBO, SUPERCHARGER,BETTER MECHANICS
Change to the XMS fuel injection system with full access and ignition mapping. Use better pistons, Con rods, lubrication, Change gearbox, clutch and diff. Get serious ! You can use nitrous for sprints and acceleration.
100 - 300% ALL OF THE ABOVE, AND UNLIMITED FUNDS
This is exotic. You use a supercharger, (and or turbo), special fuel, and the best parts money can buy. They still break, it's just a question how often. You use recommended engine builders, with a reputation to lose. They can advise you. You need full control over fuel and ignition, consider buying a XMS system
